I love sports, I especially love basketball, so of course I’m watching the college action today and closing it out viewing the L. A. Lakers playing the undermanned Golden State Warriors. The focus in these games is usually on the superstars, those playing or not playing as is the case for the Warriors. But tonight I was so delighted to see two of my homeboys suiting up for the Warriors. Zach Norvell and Jeremy Pargo, both whom played their HS ball on the Southside of Chicago and at Gonzaga University signed ten day contracts and this was their first game as Warriors.
What’s amazing is that Pargo hadn’t played in the league since 2013. When they said Pargo was checking in, I was like is it a cousin or something, but there he was. His international pro career is top notch and I have nothing but admiration for this guy.
On the other side of the spectrum is Norvell. After fighting his way up the ranks in the vaunted Chicago Simeon program, Norvell went to Gonzaga, after putting it on much more highly recruited players in AAU play. His first year was interrupted by a severe injury. He came back and was outstanding, especially during March Madness and declared for the draft. Like a lot of kids, his number wasn’t called, but he caught on to the Lakers, appeared in two games, got waived, played in the minors and today got another NBA taste. I’m rooting for these men. I hope you join me.
Their perseverance motivates me to keep dreaming and to keep to the process, so I can realize my dreams.
